The pictures tell the story. It was a great day. The girls both got new zoo shirts and necklaces from Aunt Dee. They also got these cool zipper pulls with their names on them. It's not always easy to find Tara's name, and Emily is usually sold out. Emily also bought a koala mask with her chore money. :)
The animals were lazy in the heat but the monkeys were fun. The one with the head like a toupee ran around, arms in the air and put on quite a show. Emily really wanted to see the hippos and she did. The smell nearly knocked her down when we went in the building where they were. She was like, "Oh my gosh the smell! Ok, I saw them. Let's get outta here!" In her mind, I guess she imagined a more pleasant smelling animal. Hee.

Joanne,
That hippo story reminds me of when Andy couldn't wait to see a fox at the zoo when he was four. He begged for it all day and it was on the far side of the zoo. When we finally got there, it was curled up sleeping in a little ball and looked like a really cute cat. He was so terrified of it! He immediately said, "Let's go" and walked on the the very edge of the path to get as far away from it as possible, watching it the whole time for a sudden movement.
We remind him of it everytime we go to the zoo.

Jenny,
It's so true that the animal our kid really wants to see is always on the OTHER side of the zoo! I cracked up reading that Andy eyed the fox for any false moves. :)
That koala mask still gives me the creeps a little bit. Anyone remember Jason from Friday the 13th?
