I just got back from grocery shopping. My cashier looked like he was 12. His trainer was a girl who looked all of 15. I presented a coupon. My cashier stood motionless and his eyes glazed over. He handed the coupon to his trainer. She went away and came back to tell me she couldn't accept it because it was an online coupon. Ok, whatever. But then she and her trainee started a conversation about how most online coupons are fake... right in front of me!!!! Then they had a conversation about dating. I had to break into their conversation to pay. Grrr....customer service isn't what it used to be.

Yah, sad but true.

HOWEVER...

The one (and probably ONLY one) good thing to come out of the predicted economic recession is that those types of jobs such as cashier will be filled with much higher-quality workers. Possibly someone who was chief financial officer of a company that got downsized. So skilled customer service might just be coming your way! :)
