The Flu Strikes T

Tara is as sick as a dog, poor thing. We were up all night. Today I took her in to the doctor and she has the stomach flu. The good news is that it's the 24 hour kind. But oh how you suffer in those 24 hours!
Em is terrified of getting it and is keeping her distance, which is probably a good idea. The doctor gave her some nausea medicine to be administered- well use your imagination.
Tomorrow is my mom's birthday party. I hope everyone is better by then.
Calgon take me away....

Summer stuff

Last night Jay and I played Magic. He and I finally called a truce since his deck was too strong to conquer and I had too many points to kill off. Emily took our pictures. I like this one of Jay, even if his head is partially out of the frame. He looks like he's flipping me the bird, though. :)
Today was very fun. We went to some garage sales. At one we got a Laura Ashley dress for Tara for 3 bucks. We got a halogen lamp for our living room for 5 bucks as well as a few other odds and ends. It was a nice escape. Tonight I had better do some housework, though. All this fun is taking its toll on the house.

We stopped by and saw the girls' teachers, posted on the school building. Em is once again NOT with her best friend. She's bummed. It's the playground again this year where she'll see her friends.

Fair

Burnin' rubber
Fair food is a must.

Tara's horse was called Pretty Boy.
Where I worked as a teenybopper.

We went to the Randolph Fair today. I grew up in Randolph off and on and went to the fair every year. Often I went with Debi and we ran from ride to ride all night. Times were different and kids could run free without supervision. Those are some great memories! Today was hot- very hot. The girls rode some rides and a horse.
We also looked at animals. I told the girls how I showed my rabbit at the fair when I was around Em's age. Hooper, my bunny, bit me right in front of the judge. I got a "thanks for coming" ribbon. Emily found this very funny. I still have the ribbon. :)

I also worked at the fair in my junior year of high school. I made gyros, waited on customers and chopped buckets and buckets of onions. It's still there every year and I took a picture of it.
Ahhh. The fair rocks- even when it's hot.

When the bed gets too comfy....look out!

I was feeling lazy this morning and didn't want to get up. Partly, it was because I heard thumping around at 3 am and got up to see Emily and Tara happily watching who knows what on the TV.
"What are you doing up?!"
"We couldn't sleep." (Which translates to Emily getting up and waking up Tara for company and then getting the dog.)

I told them to get back in bed and I went back to bed. A few minutes later, thump thump thump. Emily was using the bathroom and was scared to do it alone. I guess that makes you thump.
So this morning around 8 I heard the girls rumbling around. I knew that I should get up. Should and Must are two different things.

There was a terrible thunderstorm. The girls kept coming in and reporting about the obvious storm. But still I didn't get up. It couldn't have been restful sleep I was getting- I just refused to get my lazy patukis out of bed. Then one of the LOUDEST BOOOOOOOMS of thunder and lightning hit somewhere extremely near the house. I was on my feet and saying "Get in the basement," in like 2 seconds. God helped me out of bed this morning; summarily kicked might be a better answer. Some start their day with Folgers; I with an adrenaline rush. :)

My new pet whether I like it or not.

Tara: Mom do you want a pet?
What?
Tara: A pet, what kind do you want?
Oh, I don't want a pet.
Tara: What kind of pet do you want? I have a pet store and you want a pet.
I see... how about a cat?
Tara: We don't have that.
OK how about a dog?
Tara: We don't have that.
A bird?
Tara: No.
Gerbil?
Tara: What's that?
How about a fish?
Tara: OK, I'll go and get your fish. Do you want one or more than one fish?
One.
Tara turns slowly around and says, "You want more than one, great!"
She then brings me a play fish tank. Talk about steering the answers. Tara needs to go work for the FBI interrogation division. She'd be perfect at getting just the information she wants. I'm not sure what just happened but now I have fish. :)

Loving it

Today the summer college schedule officially ended with one last presentation and final. I have about a week and a half before it all begins again. I am savoring this time.
I think I'll watch a movie, visit a friend, go shopping, play Magic with Jay, organize the basement, read something for pleasure, play outside with the kids, sleep, play with Millie, walk around the block, make a craft, barbeque, hang out with my mom.... I can't wait. My summer is here! (all week and a half of it!)

Mom and Dad
Yummy

Mom is doing better.

My dad and I had a great steak dinner yesterday. I even took a picture of my steak as corny as that is. :) It may have been the biggest steak I ever ate. It tasted great! The server took our picture but my dad's eyes were shut.
