Done with the paper/presentation dance!

MYYYYYYY gooooodness it felt good to turn in the monstrosity of a paper for my class tonight. And the presentation went well. I'd like to thank the academy. hee hee.

Tomorrow's paper is looming but not too much. I am basking in the post glow of being finished with most of the big stuff. Now just a couple of dinky papers and some finals. Cha Cha Cha Cha. I guess you can tell I'm relieved. :)

Also, thinking of Tom and Amy as they head to the hospital tonight to have their bambino at long last.

Emily and Tara are still a bit tired after camp. They went to Brownies last night and made ornaments. They are really liking Scouts. I'm glad.

Good Night!

Monday stuff

  • Emily and Tara got back from camp. I was nervous leaving them since they'd never been away from us except Emily, when Tara was being born.
  • They liked camp, did NOT like washing their dishes and came home w/o their fork but with someone else's spoon. Not bad to be the only thing missing, if you consider everything they took. Even little girls don't pack light!
  • I had a great Thanksgiving at Aunt Dee and Uncle Jim's! The food was spectacular.
  • I have been working endlessly on a big project/power point/presentation. I present it tomorrow.
  • I have a paper due in another class on Wed. The wheel keeps on turning. I can't wait until Christmas break.
  • It was good to see friends on Friday at Kirk's. Rock Band was the game of the night, for sure.
  • The leaves just about killed us again this year.... and they're not done. The tractor is broken... AGAIN.
  • Where oh where is your bambino- Tom and Amy? :)
  • I want to paint my living room green. Now I just need to get the energy... oh and paint to do it.

That's It! That's the song.

I kept hearing a song on the radio that I liked while going to and from school. Of course, being the good intuitive that I am, I had no idea what the song was called or who the artist was. Jay, having lived with me for all these years, was undaunted. He went through all the charts with me. All I could tell him was "I think it's a woman." That's all he got.

Then tonight on the way to a Brownie function, there it was on the radio. I love it! It's Nelly Furtado - Say it Right.

I need to write it down before it slips away....

It's not fun to be me sometimes. :)

I choked in the presentation

So here's how my group presentation went.
Me - Hey, do you two want to practice this?

Them - Nope.

Then we got in there and I said that we were going to sit behind a table and pretend to be an infomercial.... We went first..... The first thing my partner did was to jump up and run wildly around the room shouting. " Who wants to make a million dollars!!!!!?" So much for the understated infomercial behind the desk.

Then I got up and sounded as excited as I could but came off SO BAD. Then I forgot my train of thought in mid sentence. I totally tanked. But you know what? I don't mind too much because it's done! I never have to work with those particular people again as long as I live.

Have you ever wanted to kick your own butt? Well I did yesterday when I looked in my microwave. Let's just say I let it go a little between cleanings. I was frankly appalled at how dirty it had gotten. So, not wanting to really work too hard to clean it, I remembered in the back of my mind that baking soda and lemon juice were good cleaners. I poured some water, baking powder (couldn't find any baking soda) and lemon juice in a bowl.

As I went to get a rag, out of the corner of my eye I saw it start to foam up. Uh oh, I thought. I've made a science experiment. I wondered just how far it would foam. It calmed down soon enough and I put it in the microwave to cook for 5 minutes.

I was half expecting to open the microwave then to find it sparkling clean. The foaming baking powder/lemon juice fairies had let me down. It did smell rather nice, though. So lots of elbow grease later, it's clean again. I wonder what else I have neglected to look at. Oh I remember, the basement.

camp lite

Yesterday, the girls had a day when they were to "get ready for camp". They were to meet up at the camp, learn some stuff, and get acclimated for the big camping weekend right after Thanksgiving.

The first problem was getting there. Apparently, my directions were to a mythical place nowhere near the camp. So, several calls on the cell phone later, totally ticking off the leader with my direction challenged mind, we arrived. When we finally got there, the troop leader wouldn't look at me. I chalked it up to being very busy, but it stung none the less.

All morning, mind you, I was stressing over what they were going to wear to stay warm. I had to keep in mind the fashion consciousness of an 8 and 6 year old, too. (Not an easy task).

So when I drove back to get them later that afternoon, I found them in a cabin playing a relay race of sleeping bag rolling. I sat down next to one of the parent helpers. She asked me which girl was mine. When I told her, she said, "Oh, they are sisters? I would have never thought". Then she proceeded to tell me that Emily was so forgetful. I nodded and said sorry. Then she regailed me with how Em lost her hat twice. I nodded again, now getting a bit annoyed. I get it, she's forgetful. Let's move on. The third time when she turned to me and said something about how annoying Emily was, I said. "She's got ADHD, she can't help it." This lady really got under my skin. Thankfully, another parent helper came over and told me that the girls were so enthusiastic and cute. I liked her much better. :)

Today Tara showed me her poison ivy. She knew it was poison ivy because her friend at camp marched her through it saying "Let's go play in the poison ivy!" I wish I were kidding. Now Tara is itching and scratching.

One thing that warmed my heart was when we finally got to camp, and Tara said, "Mom, you are the best. You didn't give up and take us home. You didn't get mad. You found it!" Emily hugged me later and thanked me for taking her to camp. On their end, life was perfect (except for a little poison ivy). And at the end of the day, that's all that matters really.
