Grrrr.

Last night I told my prof, ever so nicely, that I don't have access to a student on an IEP to tutor for the class project. She told me with a hint of attitude that this course had a field experience aspect and I should sign up at the education college for a placement. Fine. Then a few others asked her the same question which made her irritated.

So today I called the college of ed's special office and was transferred and cut off three times. In mid sentence they transferred me! Then finally a woman explained to me that they were not responsible for this and the prof was wrong and needed to sign up our whole class way before now. She got really annoyed and totally killed the messenger- i.e. me.

This assignment calls for me to tutor a child on an IEP in reading for at least six weeks and make assessments, interventions and more. For legal reasons, many schools aren't going to just allow me in to tutor a kid on an IEP. Special Education is very strict about confidentiality.

I am in a bind.

Hmmm- I would definitely follow thru with Education department- they have the most pull with the local schools. Is this a long term prof? If not I am sure the department has dealt with them before. I had no trouble with a placement for my one special ed class but I am sure restrictions have changed over the years on confidentiality... you probably just have to sign something.

Does your teacher need to see the child you tutor? I know how to do a good Billy Madison and act like a kid. I also have a reading disability: I hate to read.

Call me or I'll get a hold of you. I have an idea for you.

I'm sorry, but the school you're going to SUCKS!

Are there any other school options for your degree?

I called Akron U for info and they wouldn't let me transfer many credits. I'm stuck here.

Irritating.

I’m not surprised though. When I transferred from Louisville to Columbus most of my credits transferred as nondescript “electives”. Great. I need a mere 9 hours of unspecific electives at Columbus and I have 40-something.

What can you do? We’re at the mercy of the guardians of higher learning.

Wow Rat, that's a lot of credits for elective compared to what you need. I guess that's what schools do to keep you in one place. I'm glad you're in school, though!

Yeah.

I'd hoped to be able to take care of at least a year in my degree tract in Columbus, but no such luck.

So it goes.
